Dr. A. Paula Grigorian has been part of the University Hospitals Eye Institute since 2012. She is board-certified in Ophthalmology and is specialized in pediatric ophthalmology, serving at Rainbow Babies and Children’s Hospital. She is an Assistant Professor at Case Western Reserve University (CWRU). Previously, she had worked at Children’s Mercy Hospital of Kansas City, MO and was an assistant professor at University of Missouri Kansas City (UMKC) and Kansas University Medical Center (KUMC).
Dr. Paula Grigorian was born and raised in Bucharest, Romania. She received her medical degree at the University of Medicine and Pharmacy Carol Davila in Bucharest. After a surgical internship she completed her ophthalmology residency at Central Military Hospital in Bucharest Romania where she met her husband, Florin, now sharing the same specialty. After becoming board certified in the European Community she came to the US where she completed another residency in Ophthalmology at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences in Little Rock, AR and fellowship in Pediatric Ophthalmology at University of Texas Southwestern in Dallas.
Clinical Interests
Dr. Paula Grigorian helps children improve or regain their vision and moreover, the binocular vision and depth perception. She cares for patients, both adults and kids with strabismus (eye misalignment) and helps them restore not only their normal appearance, but also their ability to see three dimensional (3D vision).
She has a special interest in children with cataract helping them see again through surgery followed by intensive visual training. Dr Grigorian along with highly qualified multi specialty teams cares for children with genetic eye conditions, complex and high-risk cases, rare clinical syndromes and pediatric neuro-ophthalmology conditions.
She is also dedicated to the care of the eyes of the most premature babies, performing treatments for retinopathy of prematurity, helping them develop normal vision.
Dr. Paula Grigorian is an active clinical investigator for the Pediatric Ophthalmology Study Group (PEDIG), a multicenter collaborative network that includes more than 200 pediatric ophthalmologists in the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom. Some of Dr. Grigorian’s clinical research interests include the effects of strabismus surgery on the distance-near discrepancy and the effect of muscle surgery on nystagmus.
At the UH Eye Institute, Dr. Grigorian has received regional, national, and international referrals. She sees patients at Rainbow Babies and Children’s Hospital, Landerhaven and Westlake.
